Semi-Cursed Magic Items from DM Samuel's RPG Musings

Although cursed items in 4e are still around, they seem to have lost their game-ruining panache. I think fun and heroism are a great part of the 4e philosophy, however I’d like to see cursed items make their way back to the table. An easy way to introduce cursed items without punishing your players..

Would you like an “A” or 100 XP?, Part 2 from The Other Side blog

So my son indeed got home tonight and we sat in the game room. He had his notebook, all my D&D books, including 2nd, 3rd and 4th editions of the Dragonomicon, and he wrote a history for me on why is character wanted a life of adventure. Here are som…

Mailbag 8—All By Myself, Part 5 from Critical Hits » RPG

This final piece is all about the competition for your solos—the players and their characters. You design encounters to challenge those others at your game table, so almost all of this series has really been about them anyway. Rather than the mechanics of making and using solo creatures, this…

Origins 2010: Final Round-Up from Critical Hits » RPG

Origins has once again come and gone. Due to various scheduling mishaps with the convention and technical problems, we didn't get to do much in the way of scheduled gaming, and spend our time looking for things to do. Here's just a sample of some of the stuff that we did do and I was excited about…

Games…Must Have Games… from Evil Machinations

I hate gaming dry spells. I think the longest period I’ve gone without gaming was two years, if you’re talking about actually sitting at the table, either as GM or player. If you’re counting game preparation and research, it’s more like, well, 6 months.

Nicely-timed Press Release from Transitive Property of Gaming

Review: Imperial Gazeteer from Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies

I recently received a review copy of Kobold Quarterly's Imperial Gazetteer, a 68-page tome detailing the undead domains of Morgau, Doresh, and the the subterranean Ghoul Imperium of the Free City of Zobeck campaign setting. While this review is of the Pathfinder version (available in print or PDF),…

Finished: GURPS 4E player handout from Game in the Brain

I got a strong urge to make a player hand out based on GURPS Lite 4e. What I did was I inserted a ton of my home brew rules and made it tailor only to Low Tech. Basically its a complete enough players introduction to GURPS for low tech games
